Burning rubber smell

Nearly every time I pull into my garage after using the truck for errands I smell some kind of burned rubber odor coming from engine bay. The truck has 2800 miles on it and so I thought maybe this is more of a new engine kind of odor.

Has anyone else experienced this odor on their trucks?

 

New engines will often give off a mild plastic/rubber/chemical-type smell for the first several thousand miles until all components have been thoroughly cooked with heat cycles. The key word here is "mild." Personally I kinda like this smell.

If the odor is strong or if you can see smoke, this is a serious issue.

 

If the smell is quite bad and you think it's something more than a break-in smell, look your engine bay over to make sure nothing is rubbing the exhaust or burnt. If you can't find anything and the smell gets worse or stays around, get it checked out.

Sounds like typical off gassing to me. Trucks have a ton of voc's they give off. One reason why garages should be sealed from the living space.

 

As long as you do not smell that...and vasoline...I think it's normal

 

Based on your comments, the most logical explanation is new engine break-in heat cycles. The odor is not severe and I've never seen anything unexpected in the engine bay. Was just curious about it...

I had a question about a 'heat' issue so paid a visit to a local fire station. They took out their thermal imaging camera and it saw the issue. No charge. Remember, so-called electric devices are actually powered by smoke. When the seal breaks you see smoke come out. Then it is declared broken. Get it checked.
