Everyone is different with fueling needs. Ive read some people just grab a cup of coffee and start their marathon...

For me I need to fuel around every 30-40 mins with a gel.

Zombie is correct, individuals vary- I try and get roughly 200 calories/hour on long runs- I eat a block (35 calories) every 20-30 minutes, sip on a bottle of Perpetuem and every other hour eat half of a bar (Hammer or other)

You definitely want to stay ahead of the curve, if you wait too long- you're pretty much screwed

    congrats on your progress! :D

After all the goofing off, while pacing my friend on her first 26.2, I got a cold. That cold turned into a bronchitis that lasted 4-5 days. I did not used any medication, other than probiotics (full fat yogurt, ginger, kombucha and coconut kefir).

After the congestion was gone, my "lungs" have been gone!

I can do my crossfit WODS just fine, and skiing has not been disturbed, but running at anything faster than 9:45 splits or running over 5 miles is currently simply an exercise in futility.

I'm flying home, to FL in about a week. I'll be there for 16 days, in which I plan to enjoy the warmer temps and lower altitude to get back into things.

    I miss my running!

Thanks for the suggestions guys......wasn't sure if every 30-45min was too much and wouldn't be burning fat/carbs adequetly? During my half marathon race I ended up downing 4 with one just before the race (so every 3 miles) and felt GREAT.

Good luck kickin the bronchitis Driver!

    I can't wait!

Oh, the congestion is gone. I just get "winded" when running, but thanks for the thoughts!

I "ran" the Texas Spartan beast last saturday. Im still sore and in some minor pain.

it was suppose to be 10-12 miles with a swimming portion. since it was so cold they cut out the swim and added on 3 miles making it a 15 mile race.
I was good for the first 4-5 miles. I was running, had a good pace, and wasnt too cold bc I was actually running. Then came the hills... Up and down this "hill" several times, then un and down carrying a 60lb sandbag, then up and down carrying a 5 gallon bucket full of gravel... some water crossings...rope climbs... I did manage to nail the spear throw :D.
    4 hours and 48 mins.

Looks like fun........nice lookin beard man. I've had mine since October and want to grow it out big but can't stop trimming LOL.

Do any of you guys tape your feet up for your long runs? I'm developing two hot spots on the ball of feet/big toe. I was thinking of using athletic tape or duct tape? Does it actually stay on?

haha Thanks man. I trimmed it way down after the race using a #4 guard on the trimmer.

The only tape ive used is that kineso type tape for my achillies and it does stay on pretty well.

No But I do want to get a garmin forerunner gps watch.

look at Leukotape for hotspots, it's thinner, but sticks like glue- I got turned on to the stuff on a backpacking forum several years ago- it's the only stuff I use now (I also use it for long runs on my nips! :D) even works when it's totally soaked

Congratz on this race. I had a few friends (from my local area here) that went all the way down for that race. They wanted to get their 'double trifecta' for 2013. They're sort of just weekend warriors - so it was a hell of a challenge for them. But they finished it (much slower than your time). They were surprised at the bad weather. And even being from miserable Canada, the weather kicked them in the ass.

They're already talking about doing it again next year - along with a 1 or 2 other US Spartans. I want to do 1 or 2 US Spartans as well. You never know, maybe I'll run into you next year!

keep the sides at 4ish with a longer goatee area so it's tapered but my hair is super curly so a BIG beard looks goofy to me.

Where can I find that? Used athletic tape the other day in a pinch but had to re-do it twice as it was coming off.....still worked though.

Thanks man. Thats a long way for a race! and that makes me feel a little better about the weather, if its bad for Canadians its gotta be bad for us Texans down here! lol

I've already pre registered for next year in Glen Rose. Ill be at the Burnet, Texas super. I just need to find a sprint to do so I can grab that trifecta. I was thinking about the one in Colorado or possibly one of the stadium races.

    Amazon, ebay, I'm sure elsewhere

    http://www.amazon.com/BSN-Medical-Leukotape-Sports-Tape/dp/B000H94TAQ

Look like my 2013 total will be just shy of 1700 miles (1689 to be exact), that's a bout 200 miles over 2012 :)

^^ You're the man....buying it this weekend. So, no other adhesive is needed? Will prob use for nips too as the body glide does good but just in case.

it sticks really well, if you have any problems w/ sticking then a little tincture of benzoin on the skin first will definitely do the trick
