first post. i have a 2002 tacoma manual with the 3.4, with 61,000 miles. im having a problem with the truck idling. when the motor hasn't warmed up all the way and i take it for a drive ill come up in speed then press the clutch or throw it in neutral and the rpm's will shoot up to between 1600 and 2200 and hold there until i come to a complete stop. my first thought is to clean out the IAC valve, i was hoping to get some more insight on the problem.

    please and thank you, kurt

heres what im thinking. ive heard of IAC'S gumming up and causing the engine to idle rough or high, i thinking that this is the case until the motor warms up enough to loosen up the gunk in there, am i on the right path?

    Any codes?
Nothing to lose by trying this. You may have to replace it.
You might also have a bad coolant temp sensor, which is telling the computer your engine is colder than it is.

I can see my contribution last night was amazing...

My truck always runs around 1600 rpm maybe even more before warming up

Its just warming up now if it was sitting upwards of 2200 even after warming up I might say you have a problem... keep in mind that your drive line isn't under pressure with the clutch in or in neutral.

Imo you have nothing to worry about.

when its not moving and its cold it will idle around 1200 until it warmed up, but when i drive and its not at the right temp thats when it gives these problems

As stated don't think its anything worth worrying about as long as it goes away after warming up.
