Toyota lists a $395 (msrp) item they call Paint Protective Film on their list of exterior accessories. The product description says the Toyota Genuine Accessory Warranty only applies when the installation is performed by a trained Toyota-approved installer. Problem is my local dealer says they have no one trained and Toyota-approved to install it.

Does anyone have this urethane film installed on their truck and is it worth looking for a Toyota installer?

    Thanks.

Go to an place that specializes in this. A detailing shop, or custom shop. I had my toyota dealership do both of our vehicles, and had to take both back to be redone. Supposedly they sent their guy to some special class and he was supposed to be good.

Also, the dealership has packages, and I think one of them includes the mirrors, and if you have an OR the mirrors can't be filmed.

I say get the film, get it as soon as you can after getting the truck, and go to a custom shop that is known for good work.

I had the film on my Tacoma and am planning to put it on my new truck (Tundra) as well. I had the Taco done at the dealership by an 'approved' installer. I did have minor issues with it twice which he had to repair. Once, an edge came up which had to be redone and the other time, I got bubbles in the center of my hood section which he blamed on the car wash I go to using a pressure washer on it. No beef with him fixing the problems, but it was two extra trips to town during that first year which was time and gas money out of my pocket.

With my new truck I won't be getting it done at the dealer. They wanted right around $1,000 (thieving bastards) for it. I've gotten a quote from a local truck accessory shop who'll do it for just over $500. They'll be using the exact same material and giving me the exact same warranty. The only difference is I'll be dealing directly with them and not the Toyota dealer.
