    I have a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 with the auto and V6
Yesterday my son was driving the truck and put it in 4x4 low. He said it hit hard but worked fine. He changed to 4hi and that seemed to work fine also. When he went to leave he said it would not come out of 4hi. I checked this morning and found no blown fuses or bad relays. I jacked the truck up and put it on stands, ran it and it was not stuck in 4hi as he thought but the green light was flashing.Moving the selector did not do anything. I was able to move the selector to 4hi with the engine off and then start the engine and it would shift into 4hi and power the front axle. Did the same for 4lo and back to 2hi. Each time shutting engine off and change selector and restarting. The green 4wd light never stops flashing, if it is any of the positions. Any help would be usefull.

Not much help for ya, but I noticed today when I first engaged 4wd while slipping, 4wd engaged but the light flashed until I was able to let off the throttle. I'd try reverse then drive around a few miles in 2wd to see if it shuts off.

Tried that too.Put about 75 miles on it since this happened. Theres a lot of people with the flashing light problem. Don't see how it could be the actuator like a lot of the threads suggest, because we can make it work if we turn the selector before starting it up. Got to love all this electronic improvements.

It does not seem logical that it's the actuator, but it is a very common problem. Pop the front actuator out and have a look inside, at least you can eliminate that.

Hmm. Did you check the actuator in the T-case?
I converted mine over to a manual shift, but it's hillbilly engineered. A lot of guys are swapping in the manual shift T-case out of the FJ cruiser...might be something to think about. Btw, my home made lever shifts every time.

Edit: I'll add this, if it's blinkin' it's thinkin'. Meaning the contacts have not engaged. Maybe the clock spring resets the contacts when you cycle the ignition?

well your right, but even when i have it in 4 wheel drive and am driving it it still flashs. Im begining to think there is a switch in the front axle that doesn't know where it's position is.

The "switches" are those rainbow shaped sliver colored traces in the black plastic lid of the T-case actuator. There is spring loaded contacts that ride on those traces and depending on the position of the 4wd shift lever those tell the front axle to lock and report back the the 4wd ECU behind the glove box. The front axle actuator receives that signal, slides the locking collar over the passenger side axle, and also reports back to the ECU saying "stop blinking I'm in 4wd". If any of those motors hang up, the light blinks. If any of those traces are fried, or full of water and muck, then the light blinks. There are also two switches on the T-case near the actuator that indicate shaft position (4HI, 4LO). You'll figure it out. Or you'll figure out the manual t-case swap, one of the two!

Thanks for the info. Now today my son took the truck up the road and said the light quit flashing and everything was working like it should, no flashing light and no problems going to 4 hi or 4 lo and back to 2 hi. it's a 2007 so there's no warranty. This seems like a very common problem with these trucks and Toyota doesn't seem to have a fix other than put a new actuator or transfer case shifter in them when they mess up. Think i will wait and see how long it takes to happen again before i give them more money.

I would agree with you, but i see a lot of "grownups" having the same problem.
I tend to blame Toyota more than the kid this time!
