So I tore apart my dash yesterday to fix my 12v plug and noticed this peculiar gray wire spliced into a harness behind my steering wheel. It runs across my dash, below my radio to where the 12v plug is, then back up and behind the glove box. It is then spliced into another cluster. Im not worried about it, but it's definitely not stock and I'm curious as to what it's for. My 12v + wire had been rewired and ran under the carpet to nowhere so the previous owners wiring has me a little scetched out. Below is a photo of the wire spliced behind the glove box. What do you guys think? I absolutely abhor wiring :turtleride:

My truck didn't have cruise control from the factory, I had random wires tapping into the ECU that I was worried about until I found that's what it was for; one of the previous owners had an aftermarket cruise control system installed.

Maybe that's what it is??

It clearly has a purpose. As long as your truck runs fine and nothing is broke I wouldn't try and fix it :)

On your '96, the Green/Orange is the VSS wire, which would most likely be used only by a cruise control.

Interesting, thanks for the tip guys. I have stock cruise control so I dont suspect that is it. I definitely live on the 'If it isnt broken dont fix it" motto so ill just leave it be. It just had my curiosity peaked

Only other thing that would tap into the VSS would be a YellowBox/SpeedoHealer to recalibrate the speedometer for oversized tires. MAYBE an in-dash GPS or an alarm system.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
    On the other hand...

<putting on my network administrator hat>

Disconnect it and see what stops working.

If no users (truck functions) complain, then it wasn't being used anyway. :D

    You can always reconnect it.
