Hybrids kill our Earth quicker than regular vehicles. More rare earth minerals have to be mined to make them. Plus you have to replace those batteries down the road. Thanks All Gore.

Another fact about Hybrids, most owners don't buy another.

Pickuptrucks.com has quite the audience. DURAMAX GER DERN IT!

I think the whole concept of a serious off roading daily driver will have to be rethought. Most trucks stay on roads and that's where the focus has to be. Serious off roaders will have to switch the dirt bikes or something eventually. Just try to imagine how many nanny computer functions you'll need to override in the future. I'm not really looking forward to a lot of it either.

Elon Musk of Tesla was interviewed the other day, he noted the F150 is the biggest selling vehicle in the US. Guess what his next project is going to be?

Exciting times here in pickup truck world, my friends.

I agree, when I think of Hybrid cars, the Prius is the first thing that comes to mind. Something I heard the other day, that Ford sells more Hybrids in North America than Toyota.

There will have to be big changes to keep up with the higher requirements for better mileage.

I see nothing at all wrong with considering them an off-road vehicle. Why would I think they were not? The entire system is fully sealed and water tight on the outside. Sure, the battery on the inside is susceptible to water, but so are the electronics of ANY vehicle if water gets too much into the cab. I make no claims at all about the Highlander. The specific comment was that "Nobody makes a full size hybrid off-road truck" To which I showed was incorrect. Why would you bring the Highlander into the discussion??

As for the whys and hows, I don't work for GM corporate (and I am guessing you don't either) so I am not going to speculate. As for towing capacity, I am again confused on your reasoning for mentioning it. we were discussing if a vehicle is viable as an off-road vehicle. The Tahoe IS viable. Towing has nothing to do with it. I may tow a trailer or camper to the off-road park, but I certainly don't tow my trailer on the trails.

I again disagree with you that a hybrid is QUITE viable for off-road driving in its present state. I have wheeled with Tahoe hybrids when I lived in Florida, and they did just fine.

As for your engine comparison between the Tahoe hybrid and the 4.3 V6, I am confused there as well. How do you figure that the 4.3 has the same abilities as the hybrid? The base engine for the hybrid is the 6.0. A lot more HP and torque than the 4.3.

Not trying to start any argument, as I have already proven my point, but can you explain a little more about your specifics? This is what I find:

4.6 V6 --285 HP and 305 lbs ft of torque
Tahoe hybrid with 6.0 V8 --332 HP and 367 lbs ft of torque

    There is no way a 4.6 could outperform the hybrid off-road. That is like comparing a 2.7 4X4 with a 4.0 4X4.
