4 speed vs 5 speed AT 4th gen

Looking into trading my taco for a 4th gen v6

I assume i should get a 05+ with the 5 speed if i can, but are there any noteable draw backs with the 4 speed?

Also, do all V6 4x4 4runners have H2 H4 L4 like my Taco, or jus the 05+ 4x4?

All your v6 4Runners have the choice of 2wd or 4X4. They also have a center diff lock wch will give 50/50 power to all 4 wheels at once. You can go into 4x4 without locking the center diff and run AWD it will be a 60/40 split power though. Join t4r.org, a lot of info there. The search engine will be your friend.

 

I apologize, what I meant to ask was how much better or important is it to get a 5 speed trans over the 4 speed

 

I have an 04 V6 with the 4 spd, no issues so far, ~150K on it. One nice feature is the tranny dipstick to check and fill so you do not have to use the OBD to check the temp and fill etc., the 5 spd does not have this.

 

The 5 spd is a sealed trans. It needs to be serviced at 100k miles (flush and fill). The 5 spd will give a little better fuel economy but probably not much.

 

I had a 4 speed 2wd v6 4runner for a little under a year. It was a great truck (just needed the 4x4 so we got a taco) but I can say that my brother in law has an 08 with 4x4 and he still averaged about 2 mpg better than I did. The extra 5th gear allows you to sit at a lower rpm on the highway and that really helps with MPG. Just my $.02.
