4" Lift

I know absolutly nothing about cars so I would like to know the max tire size on the factory wheels with a 3" or 4" lift.
I also want some all terrain tires not crazy mud tires just some good looking all terrains.
Also I would like to know whats better a suspension lift or a lift kit.
It's a lot I know but I really need some help I am clueless.
