So I know this has been done many different ways; but I wanted something bombproof and an activity to keep me busy. So here we go.

    Parts list:
    2"x2" angle iron
    1"x1/8" barstock
    4 1'2" bolts
4 5/16" bolts, nuts, fender washers, lock washers.
    1/2" tap
    Sawsall
    File
    Plasti-dip or paint.

    1. Cut 2 pieces of angle iron at 11"

Drill out 2 holes to mount to the rail. I chose 2' in and 1/2" up.

    3. Cut 4 pieces of the 1"x 1/8" bar stock in 3" lengths, drill out the center and tap it with your 1/2" tap.

    4. Paint!

    5. Slide the threaded bar stock into the railing
    [IMG]

    6. Bolt on the angle iron.

    7. Do both sides.

    8. Drill out the angle iron to the mounting pattern for your tool box and bolt that sucker down!

It was a fun and frustrating project. I smashed the hell out of my finger, so bad 15 year old scotch couldn't take away the hurt!

Thank you. I'd like to make track mounts with tig welded nuts but don't quite have the equipment "YET" someday hopefully.

Maybe I didn't look at it too closely, but does it slide back and forth on the rails?

Also, where did ya get the box?

Nevermind….I looked at it a little closer and answered my own question.

Sorry, I didn't get too specific. The rail is compressed between the 1" stock inside and the angle iron. The box is from lowes. I plan to take the rail off from in front of the box and mount it onto the box so i'll still have a fwd tie down rail. But that's for when i move into my new place and have all my tools.

Naw, it's cool man. As soon as I went back to look at it I realized that it just sandwiched with the two pieces. I like the idea and will probably do this once I get my box. Gotta wait until I get back to the states though. Thanks for the pics.

Easy wit the accusations! I was celebrating the end of the project and that i still had use of my finger. I just happened to notice the pain didn't diminish with each sip of the exceptionally smooth scotch.

Just FYI, t-nuts that fit perfectly can be found at Fastenal for fairly cheap. I thought about TIGing some special little custom t-nuts since I have the means to, but buying them easier and quicker

Thats a good idea! I'm now thinking of doing a fwd rail that will be mounted to the side rails so it can be moved. Rail-ception? Anti seize would have been a good idea if i planned to un-mount it semi often; but I don't think I'll be moving it anytime soon. I actually use locktite on all the hardware. The angle iron is nice because the box doesn't rest on the bed-rails that way I won't get noise when it flexes and if i take it off the bedrail won't be worn.

Hey OP, how do you like that Kobalt tool box? I have heard some people say they feel cheap and leak. I am debating whether or not I get a conopy and if I don't I will need/ want a low profile box to store my camping/ recovery gear. I see you live in OR but not sure where. How does it hold up in the rain? Does it feel secure to you? Is there a lot of play in the lid when it is locked?

Everybody says go UWS but I don't have 400-500 bucks to drop on one.

Would you happen to know the Fastenal part number?

So far the box is great no problems. It's not super heavy duty but it seems to be well built.

Is that a Kobalt box? Do they offer it in black? I need a tool box and want a slim line just like this that's not 24" wide
