I just traded my F150 for a 09 tacoma , i do love my toyota... But I keep finding more and more issues I did not realize when I test drove it..

one of the things that bugs me the most is the steering wheel volume controls do not work for the stereo.. I have a remote for it, which is really weird.

Does anyone know of a good fix for the controls on the steering wheel?

Need more info here. What radio do you have? Sounds like aftermarket, since you have a remote. If that's the case you will need an adapter to make steering wheel controls work. You can get it from Crutchfield or *********.

^What he said. Factory doesn't come with a remote. The guy who traded it in may have done some rewiring.

Well first, the audio/video section would prob be a better place to ask. But... since the stock stereo doesn't have a remote, I'm going to guess you have an aftermarket stereo in it. If that's the case, the steering wheel controls are disconnected. You will need an adapter from Axxess called the ASWC-1 here;http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4PJC9K/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and it's adapter harness to make it plug and play, and for about another $10 it's worth it to not have to splice(sorry I couldn't find it, if I do I'll edit my post and add it). My steering wheel controls and my alpine hu get along just fine now in my '10.

That should be the harness. I've spliced the AWSC in my Tacoma and my Forester, they were both simple (one factory wire to the main harness ground, one or two AWSC wires to factory wires) but there's not much room.

It's a little work to cut & splice inside the dash if you're not just chopping the OE connector off, which I wouldn't do or recommend. Since you need to have a couple inches on each side of the cut to keep the connector, you need some good, compact stripper/crimpers.
