I just rebuilt a 08 Tacoma that had been rear ended. The TP light is flashing. The valve stems in the wheels that came with the truck look brand new as well as the wheels. They are flexible rubber. Aren't the tps stems supposed to be metal? The spare has a metal stem like I would expect from a TPS sensor.

Anyway, just wanted to make sure before I break the bead and order sensors. Thanks in advance!

They should be metal and silver in color.

Mine started flashing the day I bought her brand new in 2006. I had to take it back to the dealer to get fixed and they had to replace something but I forgot what it was.

If'n you got rubber stems....you don't got the TPMS sensors.. they are Aluminum, I think...all metal... they are like $60.00 each... the best thing to do is take a 3/4" x 3/4" piece of black electrical tape and place it over the light on your dash.... Has worked for me for years...(I switch to winter tires and back).. (By the way if you have those damn things....DO NOT PUT A METAL VALVE STEM CAP ON THAT IS NOT ALUMINUM, other than plastic).. That killed my spare... I put on a steel cap and the metal reaction destroyed everything....

Like who the F... needs to be told to check their tire pressure... not me man... I prefer to do it myself... then AND ONLY THEN do I know it's right on...

Tell them to shove it where the tire pressure don't matter... Just hide that annoying light..

    Cheers...

Some aftermarket TPMS use rubber valve stems. I don't have first hand experience with them, so I couldn't tell you how to differentiate between the two.

The truck has brand new tires too. I'm thinking they either didn't work, or they were too dumb to switch them to the new wheels/tires. Either way, a piece of tape should work just fine. I was just wanted to confirm my suspicions before I wasted time pulled a tire off of the bead to look.
