Hey everyone, having an audio problem.
Just a little background, I have a Kenwood head unit that was installed by Best Buy about a year and a half ago. I also have a Sony amp and Infiniti speakers. The previous owner had Circuit City install an MTX amp into the speakers probably 9 years ago. Using the same wiring, I replaced the amp myself last year because a part broke. Everything has worked fine for a long time.

Last night on my way home from work I was playing the music and the audio shut off all of a sudden.. My head unit was still on but no sound was coming out of any of the speakers. When I turn the HU off and back on, the sound comes back, but this time the back speakers sound like static, and when I turn the volume up a bit the audio completely shuts off again. I don't see any loose connections on the external part of the amp or in the speakers.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong? It seems like it should be a problem with the amp because of the way it's affecting the speakers, but I'm not sure. Thanks for reading!

I would assume the amp is turning on since there is some sound. Did you check the fuse? Does it sound like the rear speakers are just blown? (Do you how to tell if a speaker is blown?) When the sound shuts off, does the protect light on your amp turn on?

Sounds like the amp is crapping out, good grounds and good wire connections ?

+1 on checking the ground. Many people do not go all the way to ensure the ground is actually well grounded (sanding paint off to ensure solid connection, making sure the spot you picked will provide a good ground, etc).
