I heard that the 4runners and tacomas have the same body structure. Is this true? Does this mean I could buy say side steps or NFABS for what was for a 4runner and they fit on my tacoma??

I doubt the parts will fit, but you can always check part #'s and see if anything matches up...

I don't think they will fit. Even within different tacoma models (access vs dc) they aren't interchangeable.
