So lately I have been wishing I had a longer bed, so looking at 2014s what are your opinions on 4cly vs 6cly they will be manuals with the 885 one lift and bull bar 265/75 or 255/85 tires and light wheeling, only towing would be a small bass boat

I would wait, with all the new vehicles coming out( tundra,colorado,canyon,f150,Titan ect) I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota released a new 2015 Tacoma.

If they do release a new model you can either get the 2014 for cheap or pick up the latest and greatest Tacoma.

I would be pissed if I bought a 2014 right now then a new model came out in a few months.

Also, I am very UNhappy with my 6speed.

If I was to do it again I would get a long bed auto.

If I had to do it again I'd get an access cab V6 auto w/ 6' bed. I don't know about the 5 speed but the 6 speed feels like a chore. And thanks to the weird drive by wire settings, rev-matching down shifts can be awkward.

As a somewhat unrelated side note, I've found that when downshifting on the freeway, the DBW/ECU doesn't let the rpms fall below 1500 for a moment after you disengage the clutch. It makes low rpm downshifts (ie cruising in 6th on the highway when you suddenly approach a very steep grade) exceptionally smooth without really needing to rev match.

Au contraire... I bought my '14 BECAUSE there is a new one coming out. The current generation is tried and true. And if I had to bet, I'd bet the next generation is going to sacrifice some of its ruggedness and ride height in favor of fuel economy.

I agree with this. I wouldn't buy a new 2015, assuming that's when they change the tacoma. If I were to buy the new model I would wait until the bugs are worked out.

Get an auto v6 LB. Always better to be overpowered than underpowered.

QFT. Wait a couple years on new models for them to fix bugs. Similar thing we are seeing with a small portion of 2005/06's carrying some of the rusting problems off the tail end of the 1st gen era

And you can wait for 15's/16's/whenever next gen is announced to decide if you wanna stick with current gen or wait a couple years on that next gen.

    I would absolutely consider a 2014 AC 4 cylinder auto....fine truck.

Even if Toyota dropped a new engine in the line up , I'd wait a year or two for them to work the bugs out .

Everyones really gung-ho for diesel , but I know a lot of powerstroke owners that are at the dealer weekly with issues . And duramax motors seem to randomly pretty much blow up from what I've read .

I'm sure you'll be able to score a good deal on a 2014 once te 2015 comes out .
    Otherwise I'd wait till 2016

I've had my '13 2.7 AC for 4 1/2 months, have already put 8000 miles on it, and I love it. I think it would pull a lightweight fishing boat pretty easily. As for the hope that some have for a diesel option, around here diesel is 50 cents more a gallon. Add that to the markup for the diesel engine and there's no financial gain, although the towing capacity would probably go up.

Powerstroke problems are with the high pressure fuel pumps from what I hear/read. Ford is supposedly addressing that with an all-new pump and new injectors with the newest version of the 6.7. As for the Duramax, they can't seem to get the DEF right for whatever reason. The DEF tank is in a Godawful location for one, and there are supposedly sensor problems and the truck thinks it's low on DEF when it isn't and goes into limp mode.

If Toyota does come out with a diesel in the Tacoma I'll be all over it after it's been out for 2-3 years.

I couldn't see capacity going up as the truck isn't large enough...plus with all the emissions what's the benefit really? How about a more efficient 2.7 with a turbo to replace the 6

It would have to be way more efficient and prove a few years of realizability for a diesel to be worth it . In CT the cost of deisel is 50-60 cents more then 87 octane .

I'm a cad tech now, but I was a instrument man for 2 years, trying to finish my degree is geomatics.

I also was a tech at Toyota for a while.

I don't understand the diesel thing everyone's all about, I thought the reason we had a taco was because we weren't trying to be the diesel truck bros...it's not a feasible idea, a turbo gas is much better idea in my opinion, dealers are already equipped to handle gas engines.
