I want a bow saw to carry in my truck for small to medium trees that might block a trail. I don't want to carry a chainsaw around. This is the one I'm considering. Bow saw I have tried those "pocket chainsaws" and find they don't work well at all. Does anyone else carry one? Any other suggestions?

I know your request sounds ridicules...but I actually helped a guy on the trail with my quad because I had one. His jeeps front tire was rapped around a 4" tree on a 45 degree incline and my little bow saw saved his ass. They are nice to have...check Craig's list.

I usually throw a tow strap over the log and back up, it will break or move enough to get around it. It's very rare I have to get out a saw for any trees across the road, and I've moved some big ones...

The situation I was in, the guy was going up the hill and started to slide backwards...sticking a 4" tree..while his wheel was cut between his fender and control arm...on a 45 degree hill. He had no winch and front and rear lockers. It was an odd situation to say the least.

Don't get me wrong, I have a saw with me, I'm just lazy. I also carry a hack saw for a similar reason. Once a 1st gen dude hit a rock just right and it pinched his tailpipe shut. The motor died (tried to start but it would just backfire) and he was in a nasty mudhole with no way to drag him out....luckily I had a hack saw to cut the pipe off or we would have been hosed.

I was out last weekend and a 6" tree was across the trail. It had split from heavy snow. It was about 3 feet off the ground. It wasn't broken all the way off. I couldn't go around it so I had to backup a ways. I didn't try to pull it as it was still partially attached to the trunk on one side of the trail and jammed between trees on the other side. Anyway, I'm thinking they are pretty light and more efficient than an axe.
