Kind of a long story but I'll make it quick.
A school bus was stopped OFF the road. The stop sign was out and people stopped in both directions. He put the stop sign in and we started moving. Then he put the sign out again and the guy in front of me slammed on his brakes.
I was distracted by the fact my father was in hospice at his home. He passed later that day.
I went with one of my insurance companies "preferred providers" I just didn't feel like dealing with my truck. I just wanted it fixed.
I picked the truck up on December 24. The repair job was horrible. I honestly don't know how a shop could put out such a bad product.
I returned my truck to another shop December 27. I might get it back today.
Meanwhile I've had to drive a Kia soul around in the snow. With no snow tires.

I strapped the headlights back on and threw the bumper in the back and drove it home.

Damn man... First off sorry for your loss. I know how that feels.

Second sorry about your truck. It sucks that you have to deal with that on top of everything else. Hopefully it will be fixed correctly and things will get easier.

Take care friend and welcome to the TW. Sorry it wasn't under better circumstances.

Sorry for your loss and I hope the repairs 2nd time around is to your liking. It looks like you ran into the Ford's hitch. Giving you the Kia is adding insult to injury.

    Sorry about your loss.

I'm picking up my truck today. Similar or slightly less damage. Only bumper, grille, supports needed replacing. No panels were damaged. They have had it two weeks. Almost all the time was waiting for the adjuster to agree to supplemental parts. Is there ever an estimate where the garage doesn't find some other part is needed? It was not like "oh gee, look, we need to order a new REAR bumper for this FRONT end damage." Underlying brackets turned out to be bent. Go figure.[IMG]

I also managed to put in a couple of nice deep scratches in the tailgate (backed into mailbox) prior to taking in for repairs. About 3" long upper left corner. Figured while they had the truck they might be able to do this at a discount... Yeah, right. $500. I'm looking for a nice bumper sticker instead.

Also asked the garage to please, instead of putting a chrome grille back on, how about replacing with a pre-painted black grille? The pre-painted grilled is actually cheaper. They did include that in estimate, but once repair started, they tech indicated wrong grille had been written up and changed it back. Duh.

Bottom line is I had it done a Toyota dealer with an on-site body shop. Original estimate by adjuster $1280. Final bill $2489. They wanted me to go to a "preferred" shop.

Oh and how did this happen? Someone tried to make a left turn into my bumper as I went through a green light. The other car did not fair so well. Totaled.

Sheesh... I'm sorry, OP. Sounds like you've been having a very rough time. I hope things get better, and I hope that you get your truck back soon.

Sorry for losing your dad. You just need time to heal.

When it comes to dealing with an accident is never easy. When I had my minor accident 2.5 weeks ago I was so concerned because I didn't know where to go etc. My insurance company had these "preferred" places but I was still stuck. I wanted to go somewhere they did a great job, made everything look like nothing happened. Also not trying to rape me financially. I went to a Toyota dealership that also has a collision centre attached to it. Since that my damage was only cosmetic, it wasn't that expensive(just under $1800 CDN). The truck drove fine before I got it fixed(had to wait for an appointment) and everything mechanically was the same after they fixed it.

I'm sure that everything will work out even though it's frustrating. Keep us informed on what's going on if you can.

Well I got the truck back this afternoon. It looks much better. The adjuster approved all OEM parts. They did an alignment too. I would take pictures but it is zero outside and getting dark. It drives great but there is still that feeling that she was wrecked. Thanks for the condolences.
I've been reading this forum for awhile.
Funny thing to add is that I know the guy I rear ended. Also a very small town so everyone has been asking "when are you getting your truck back?"
    I'll post a pic tomorrow.
