    Hello folks,

I drive a 2001 Tacoma ext cab 4 cylinder 5 speed. I work for a contractor, and in order to get to a remote work site we're having to drive through a creek as a bridge is out. The truck handles it no problem...But then in the morning when i put it in reverse to back out of the driveway, the truck acts like the parking brake is on. It doesn't want to go. And then i hear a release kind of sound and im off. It doesn't sound good. This is only in the morning, not at the end of the day

Is there water getting in my transmission?

I think your truck has a tranny dipstick, pull it out while the tranny is hot and see what's on it. Check the tranny breather tube (if it has one) to see the end is in place.

My guess is yes, you have water in it.

This thread would be better if posted in the 1st Gen section though.

This, sounds like your drums are rusting closed, then you have to break it free to drive.

i think your rear shoes are sticking in the drum, happens to me after it floods here, normally if you go forward, they release themselves, and you can back up.

Yup, shoes rusting (or freezing if cold enough) to the drum. You could drag the brakes a bit to heat them up and dry them out before parking.

My e brake freezes on when going through water crossings in the cold. Freaked me out when it happened the first time.
