I have recently installed a 3" leveling kit on my 04 tacoma. i bought some tires the other day Nitto trail grappler M/T at 285/75r16 and when they mounted them the tire was touching the control arm and well could not be installed. i was told that i needed a lift or a different rim with a negative offset. i dont go offroad much so i just bought some KMC HD addict 17" with a -12mm offset and 4.5 backspacing. So my question is what is the max tire size that will fit without problems? i currently have bf goodrich all terrain KO's at 265/75/r16 with plenty of clearance.

yea you need like 4'' BS for that big a tire.

265/75 think is the biggest in terms a width.

a 255/85r16 is taller but pretty skinny but will fit.

alright so new idea, possibly not a good one sooo. looking at the skyjacker 3" coilover and add a leaf lift with , could i use that in conjunction with the 3" leveling kit for more clearance?

3" lift EIBACH coils w/ 5100's front, OME/ Dakar leaf springs w/ toytec adjustable shackles at 1.5" and 5125's out back. 33x10.5x15 KM2's Relentless DIY steel bumper.
If your happy with your lift just stick with what you have. At this point it's not the height you need to worry about, it's the wheels. To fit those tires you either need a wheel with less backspace or keep the wheels and add spacers.
