I made it through the insurance process (totalled my 2009 DCLB Sport), the shopping and decision of what to get next. This afternoon was time to go pick up my new truck. It was still -6F here on the way home so I was alert to the conditions. I've only been without a truck for 3 weeks but in the winter that feels like an eternity.

Silver was a fine color but I'm pretty stoked to have the new truck in Barcelona Red. It's a 2013 SR5 with the extra value package. For now I'm exploring the minor differences between the 09 and the 13 such as the radio etc. I don't normally do a ton of mods but will be on the lookout for a decent cap and putting on a pair of Firestone ride-rite air bags when the weather warms up.

Nice truck! I wish the off road package and manual trans were available in DCLB.

Thanks, that's such a cool area around McGregor. I used to live north of LaCrosse and the drive down to McGregor/PDC is one of my favorites. When I put a camper on my 2009 the first overnight test voyage was to Bloody Run Park.

I can tell I'm still enamored with my 2nd Tacoma when I walk back to it in a parking lot and can't help but take a photo since the light is hitting it just right. The red seems like it "reacts" and looks brighter depending upon the intensity of the sun, if that makes sense.

I've confirmed that it's a bit of a drag to buy a new truck in the dead of winter. From trying to keep it clean to setting up the truck to starting a very tight brand new motor well below zero, winter sucks. This weekend I added the tailgate clamp/security mod. Also I placed an old lid I had built onto the box as a temporary solution until I find a permanent cover. It's a fairly heavy wooden lid that opens from the sides. I built it specifically for a 2002 S10 I used to own and the lid worked great for 7 years, I kept it stashed in the back of my garage after I sold the truck and was surpried at how well it fit the 2013 and mounted it using the bed rails.

Our temps seem to bottom out on Monday mornings these days. It was 17 below this morning as I started my commute.

Even though the southerners might not be too happy with their weather it's better than beautiful northeast Iowa. I'm ready to hookup bluTaco to the TT and head to Corpus and leave that -17 in your mirror behind!
