I have read several threads on this however,

If I buy a 2009+ head unit to swap with my 2005 unit, could I just run an aux cable from the back of 2009+ unit to my iphone or device?

Would this work or are other mods needed?

    Thanks,
    jacob

This may or may not be 100% correct, but here is my experience with what you want accomplished.

I put a 2009 unit in place of my 2006 unit, both non JBL. I wanted to use the AUX ability so I started looking up the price for the factory AUX wiring and AUX plug. It would cost more to purchase and use the factory AUX that comes in 2009+ Tacomas, than to buy something like a Grom that gives you a bunch more features.
