My first was a 1980 model I bought used in 1993 kept it for a few years then upgraded to a 1988 and then to a 1994 extended cab...All had the 22r or 22re in them. I sold the 1994 and have regretted it ever since.

I guess I'm ready to set up to a Tacoma...I have been doing some research and it seems as if the 2.7 may be the most durable....I would like to stick with a 4 cylinder. I still have plenty of research left to and in that process found this forum.

The 4.0 is a workhorse of toyota... I wouldn't discount the engine too much...

Are you looking at the 2.7 because of its durability alone? Or are other factors such as gas mileage important as well?

Durability mostly....Ease of working on it....I drive 500 miles a week to get to work...So gas mileage is also important. I need something that I can put a ton of miles on and not have to worry too much about it letting me down. I would love to find a one owner 1998-2002 single cab that had been took care of mechanically with 100,000 to 150,000 miles....I don't really care too much about looks as long as it's not a rust bucket.

Those are few and far between and the ones I have seen they want a mint for them....I'm talking almost double Kelly Blue Book value.

I do have some questions about the frame rust issues the early Tacoma's have but I'll put those in the appropriate forum.

Sure could have used a 4x4 today with all the snow we had....Took me 4 hours to get home from work and I had to help push 3 cars to the tops of hills.
