I need some help figuring out what tire i will buy this winter in colorado. I have a 2012 tacoma v6 6spd running the 245/75/16 and the two sizes I have looked at are 265/75/16 and 235/85/16. The two tires I have at the top of my list are Michelin - LTX® M/S2 and the BFGoodrich - All-Terrain T/A® KO. Other than price is there any info or advice. I drive 80% highway 20% off/dirt roads, I also want to make sure I am not going to lose acceleration/torque with a manual trans. aka burning out my clutch too early.

all tires are LT and load range E
    mich 265/75/16 $224 ea
    mich 235/85/16 $217 ea
    BFG 265/75/16 $210 ea
BFG 235/85/16 $166 ea best deal

costco prices not including install. I will mount and balance myself.

I'm a huge fan of the Michelin LTX tires.

Awesome ride quality and great traction on snowy roads. Also the cheapest tire (per mile) I've ever bought.

Since you're pitting it against the BFG AT, why not try the LTX AT?

I'm pretty sure that will be my next set of tires.

My opinion would be to go for the 265/75-16 BFG AT KO.

I've run both the BFG's and Michelins through all conditions. I think the Michelins are a great tire, but during winter conditions the BFG's would be better. Yes the Michelins perform well, but the BFG's have done better when things get slushy. Also there is the possibility of getting into some deeper stuff on the side of the road where the BFG's would be much better.

I have the BFG All Terrains in a LT265/75/16. Great tire, but a heavy tire. Stock Dunflops were only 32 lbs a piece vs BFGs are 54 lbs a piece. Lost some power in the 2.7 and about 3 mpgs going with this tire. When these tires finally wear out, I think I will be going with Michelin LTX M/S 2. 70K mile tire and since 95% of my driving is highway, I think that will be my next tire. Also going to get that tire in a P265/75/16 which only weighs 40 lbs and I should get some power and mpgs back.

So I ended up going with the ltx m/s2 in P rated 265/75/16. They are nice tires and ride better then the Dunlop's but I have noticed a few things.
1 The tire seem to activate the abs a lot sooner when driving on snow.
2 The acceleration is much slower and sense I have a 6spd trans you can really feel it. 1st gear is much longer and my rpms are right at 2k in 6st gear going 55mph.
3 My mpg have gone down to about 17 mpg from 21mpg this summer but its also winter gas blend and very little highway driving. Also have 300lbs of sand in the back for traction.
4 The tires track a little funny on grooved pavement but not dangerous

They are good tires and will lasts me a long time next set I think will be 235/85/16 duratrack lt. I think they a too wide for my needs and a some times feel/hear the diff's binding even when on slick snowy surfaces.
