My Father in law has a Colt 1911 in a .38 caliber. It is made on the .45 frame but shoots a .38. Any rough idea what it is worth. It's in good shape too. Don't know the age of the gun though. I'm going to see it tomorrow so I'll have a little more info on it.

I believe that is it. I have a .38 special and the shells are longer than the ones he uses in his Colt.

That's my guess...I'd buy it if the price is right

Check gun broker for current going prices

I checked on the Colt site, it is a 1959 model. He said he would leave it to me!! Even for a Father in Law, he is pretty cool, hope to have him around for at least another 30 years!

38 super isnt a real popular caliber but like 10mm has a very loyal following
