    Can you help us decide on a basic fire extinguisher to carry in our tacomas?

    Engine fires, normal fires, etc. something basic.

    Some of them were worried that electronics or engine can get messy with dry chemical, or electronics get damaged.

    Help us out here bro?

    The Haltron or Halguard is good in the sense it will protect your car. This is good if there is a very small "incipient" fire. These are specifically used when there is a lot of sensitive or valuable equipment (classic cars, or computer rooms). Last I checked Tacoma's are not rocket ship Duesenburg's. This extingusher can be used up very quickly if not used properly and then you can be left with a dead extinguisher and the fire flares up again. The difference between this and a standard ABC, besides the price, is that it is a slightly more effective and does not leave residue.

    If there were a fire in my truck I don't care how it goes out just as long as it gets done, just depends on how much you want to spend to buy it and then recharge it.

    The Haltron also has no A rating which is curious because I am sure it would work on normal combustibles but maybe not as well.

    So will water/and/or the ensuing fire. The important components of the electrical system are generally protected from water anyways, thus the powder would most likely not affect it.

    I will gladly replace a starter or alternator instead of having to replace the whole truck.

    Buy a 1A 10B:C or a 2A 10:BC extinguisher one is just bigger than the other. Does it all, it is the most standard kind you will find and most widely used. Does the job. Also just called a ABC dry chem extinguisher. They sell them at Home Depot, Walmart, or any other store you can find hardware.

    Agreed, If I remember the 2.5lb bottle is used up in like 7 or 10 seconds. But having seen it used on an engine fire, it is pretty cool stuff.

    Great point, but I would add that fire can eat through a lot of the protective coating and then the dry-chemical is on it. BUT if you clean it off pretty soon, your okay I think...

    I am not claiming to know fire laws and such, just only stated that I like the Halotron over the dry-chemical extinguishers. Both work fine, but as Firetaco stated, initial price, recharge costs, and experience are factors. I was just hoping for a cheaper price.

    The Halotron sounds awesome, never used it before and I think it is perfect for a vehicle fire. My concern is that if you go for a cheaper price you may end up squeezing the handle and a "Bang!" flag pops out. Now you got shafted on an extinguisher you bought x number of years ago and your truck is on fire. :goingcrazy::bananadead:
