All in for $163. I could have done it cheaper but I ordered the same wire for the solenoid relocate. It's completely overkill, but oh well.

Where/why did you use the quick disconnect? I have one for a set of jumper cables, but don't see the point for the winch if it's permanently mounted.

Is it advisable to add a fuse or circuit breaker in the power wire leading to the winch? The superwinch is supposed to pull 340 amps at full load.

I don't think it would hurt, I mean a small amp for speakers gets an inline fuse

A couple forums say to add a circuit breaker and some say it doesn't matter that's why such heavy guage wire is used

I think that if they needed one that they would come with one or say in the manual that one is required. But with so much amperage needed, I don't see a winch getting burnt out from overpowering it.

    Ouch. That hurts lol.

    Beautiful.

I need to watch that movie again.

    Fail.

I would use a circuit breaker. What's it going to hurt?

Ok, after a little reading I've figured out that the fuse/circuit breaker isn't needed. Even if there is a problem the wires won't melt due to their large gauge. The battery will drain before I destroy the motor in the winch.

I do see why the quick disconnect is important now. If there is an issue I can kill the power to the winch, or be able to pull the battery easily.

Try searching for a circuit breaker that can handle 350 amps. I just did, not pretty.

Would be nice if in the event the soleniod got stuck. Would be faster to unplug rather than having to find tools to disconnect from battery.

Maybe a relay would also come in handy so you can kill the power from in the can.

Quick disconnects could be useful if your battery cables are tightened down to the point that you can't just yank them off of the battery.

I was in a situation with some friends wheeling where the winch controls melted and the winch wouldn't shut off. He snapped the driveshaft going up a hill, so he winched to a 4runner at the top of the hill. He dragging the 4Runner he was attached to down the hill towards us. The only way to stop it was to pull the battery cables. If they wouldn't have been loose enough it could have been bad...

That's an isolator, right? That would work as a fuse, probably too high amperage, but it doesn't look like it's switchable.

Here's an interesting tidbit. The winch supposedly draws 340 amps at full load, but the wiring provided is only 2 gauge. 2 gauge only has the capacity to pull 130 amps at the most. I'm confused.

Wow, that's good for maybe a 2,000-3,000lb pull...

The 1/0 wire I bought is supposedly only good to 175 amps. I'm still missing something here.
