Anyone know of a source for factory upper ball joints besides the dealership? Prices?

I'm looking at the ball joint style Camburg UCAs and they specify factory ball joints. With 90k miles on my truck, I'd thought I might as well put new ones on instead the old ones.

    Thanks for any help.

I had good luck buying Beck Arnley balljoints for my old 4Runner. Fortunately, my brother works at a autoparts supplier and I looked through all of the BA boxes to find ones that were made by 555, the supplier to Toyota for the 4Runner balljoints.

I'm not sure if they're still the OEM supplier or not, but that's what I did :)

When I tried to do the same thing my dealer told me they don't consider the upper control ball joint a serviceable item. He only would sell me a whole new upper control arm with a new ball joint pressed in....

That seems to be what I'm finding. And at $300+ for an upper arm, no thanks.

I'm gonna call Camburg and Downsouth Motors tomorrow and see what they have to say.

The Moog ball joints require modification to fit properly. I was told to go to Napa for an OEM style ball joint

1st gen and 2nd gen are completely different in regards to upper ball joints. imo, i wouldnt replace ur stock uppers. they arent under alot of stress, not nearly as much as the lower ball joints. if u are thinking about replacing them, id save and buy aftermarket ucas. knock 2 birds out with one stone.

Got a part number? Napa lists a few diff ones, $30-$62. Thanks for the tip!

Uniballs are a little out of my budget.

Thanks for the link on Wheelers, not sure how I missed that! But at $530, it's getting close to just ponying up for the uniballs.

This hobby may be worse than racing mtn bikes! My bank account hates all of you!:D

Called Wheelers, they machine the inner face of the arm to allow the Moog bj to fit.

Talked to a buddy at a local machine shop, he's gonna do the same for me. So I ordered the Camburg UCA's from Downsouth amd the Moog bj's are on ebay for $25 each.

    I'll update when its done.

Nice move getting the information from them on how to make the MOOG ball joints work and then ordering the UCA's from someone else!

How much did you save ordering from someone that didn't know how to solve the problem after you got the information from Wheeler's?

Wheeler's just got some of my money over the holidays, so I don't feel all that bad asking them a question. If they didn't want to tell me, they didn't have too.

If it'll help you sleep at night, I gave them a chance to even come close on pricing. They couldn't/wouldn't do it.

Why would I have any trouble sleeping at night? I haven't done anything unethical.

Wheelers advertised price for the ball joint Camburg UCA is $379 DSM's advertised price is $393

    http://downsouthmotorsports.com/i-1...05-2012-performance-balljoint-upper-arms.html

Are you saying that DSM cut their prices below Wheelers, below their advertised prices? I don't believe that.

Or did you expect Wheelers to give you the machined UCA's with ball joints pressed for the same price as the bare UCA's from DSM?

I don't have anything against DSM - everything I've heard is they are a fantastic company. They didn't have a solution to your problem this time, Wheeler's did. You used the information to buy the merchandise from a competitive company - and paid more for it.

    Nice!

    David
