D3 is longer with presumably more filter media. Chris 4x4 cut one open and it looked good so I started using it. Also my dealer said it was fine to use on the 2.7 4cyl.

The D3 fits without any problems on the 4 banger. I figure the longer one has more filtering media, and the price is right, so I use that on mine.

Installation is no problem. There are no obstructions.

I bought the d1 on accident one time. Went 6k on oil change rather than my usual 9-10k.

    Things I need to tow.
I thought I saw somewhere that the D1 didn't have the anti-drain valve and the D3 did. (I could be mistaken.) The V6 has it's filter nearly upside-down (at least on the tow package models), so it definitely needs the D3.

all filters made for NON race applications have an anti-drain valve built into it.
