Ok so I have browsed this Forum for a really long time tonight trying to find the answer to my questions. I used to own a 08 TACO 4wd but I had to get rid of it due to some major problems with my financial situations. So this is my first go with the 2wd OFFROAD (haven't purchased it yet).... I need to know how the electronic locking rear differential works? Is there a button on the truck to lock it and if so show me a picture where it is so I can make sure its there and I am not just buying a truck with a sticker that CLAIMS its TRD OFFROAD. Also is it worth it if I am going to get this truck....I need some advice from people that have had experience with it. I do like to get my truck a little dirty but knowing its not a 4wd I know I can't go sink it in the deepest hole I can find and expect it to make it out like I could the 4wd. Just anyone help me out here.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
if u drive it like a 2wd u wont get stuck. the locker isnt going to help in situations where u bottom out or take a bad approach angle. the manual says to engage once stuck, but if i feel like im gonna need it i go ahead and engage mine so i have momentum in my favor when i would need it, instead of having to start from a static position. i have flung quite a bit of mud with mine with some not very aggressive AT's and the only place i needed a little help was a ditch i went to cross that was steeper than it appeared and i wound up sittin on my bull bar till a f250 rolled up.

The button is to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard with a bunch of other buttons like fog lights, power converter, downhill assist etc.

the diff lock has a button to the left of the steering wheel in the middle of the dash, it says RR DIFF LOCK. If it has that button it has the diff lock (hopefully). I guess if you want to be sure check the front of the third member for the locker actuator. you will know if its there or not. If you plan on off roading with the truck a locker is certainly worth it if you have a 2wd. without it you have a one wheeler peeler and that will get you stuck at the beginning of the trail. as for wheeling, err mudding with a 2wd. there is not much to say. a locker will help ya, but you just have to go out and see how far you can get on your own. This is an experience thing and there are too many variables to give you a solid answer. just make sure you take a friend with 4wd and recovery gear so at least you know he can get as far as you do and pull you out.

So TRD Offroad with elocker was available on 2WD! Interesting, but I wonder why they don't offer TRD OR or at least the elocker option for the PreRunner now?

They do. All the TRD OR models (4x4 and pre-runner) have the e-locker.

I know all TRD OR have A-TRAC and elocker, but I'm saying the PreRunner doesn't have the TRD OR pkg available, even with the V6, at least in various zip codes in Kan, Mo, and KY in the Toyota build configurator. Maybe it's only available in certain regions of the US?

My mistake, you're right! TRD OR isn't available in the Access Cab PreRunner, but is available in the Double Cab V6 PreRunner.
