This is a second hand question from my wife so I hope I am getting it right. This incident happened at night so her truck's lights were on. She was driving up a steep snow covered driveway in two wheel drive. The truck lost traction and the VSC/TRAC indicator on the instrument panel came on. In addition to this, the lights on both the VSCS/TRAC and the RSCA switches lit up. I assume they lit up so that you would be able to see them if you wanted to turn off the VSC/TRAC and the RSCA. Is this correct?

Why didn't she have her truck in four wheel drive? I have no idea. That's just the way she is.

Is it possible that just the VSC / TRAC light came on ? It does that when it detects wheel slip

Nope, everything came on as she was driving up the hill. They were still on when she pulled into the garage. Of course she pushed the switches trying to turn them off. Duh. Like I said…this is a second hand question.

Well if the VSC/TRAC indicator flashed because of wheel slip and she then pushed the VSC button and the RSCA buttons , the VSC light , AUTO LSD and RSCA indicators would all be illuminated

The lights on the switches came on before she pushed them. They came on at the same time as the instrument panel VDC/TRAC indicator light.

    EDIT:

Talked to a local Toyota Service Department tech. When you are on unstable ground and there is tire slippage, the VSC/TRAC panel light comes on AND the VCS/TRAC switch and RSCA switch lights also come on.

Yeah , that's what I said before , except the RSCA light shouldn't come on , RSCA is Roll Sensing Curtain Airbags , the switch allows you to turn off the RSCA system for when you are making seriously off camber maneuvers off road , basically maneuvers where the computer would normal think the truck is about to roll over , again , maybe that was selected when she was pushing the buttons

I'm betting OZ is right. I doubt the RSCA came on until she hit the switch. The others came on when she was sliding, and her pressing the switches caused them to stay on. If the RSCA switch came on then yes, you need to have it checked.

Edit: I'm tending to disregard any input from OZ from hereonin, as he appears to be a Bruins fan.

Yeah…it was a cold, dark night. Who knows what buttons she might have pushed.

If The RSCA switch light comes on when I'm driving the truck, I'll have it checked out. She does let me drive it once in a while.:D

    Thanks for the responses.
