I have a 2006 crew cab v6 and it says the max towing is 6,500 lbs. I am looking to buy a toy hauler. It is a 18 foot double axle trailer. It says the GVWR is 7420, UVW is 4675, Water is 250 and Propane is 42 with the CCC is 2453. I know the GVWR is over my towing capacity but I am wondering if I would be able to tow it still without killing my truck?
    Thanks for any feedback.

I can tow it behind a 250cc scooter. But should i, thats the real question. Moving something something forward should be the last requirement for towing, its controlling and stopping that are the real *needs*.

Ive towed and and over capacity, and slow on flat ground with no traffic was doable without too much stress. As soon as any of the 3 changed it sucked on several levels.

If you want to tow a toy hauler I'd be getting a tundra.

I have towed OVER CAPACITY--Short trips..It is NOT good for the Tranny. manual or auto.
    AGAIN--DANGEROUS..Even with trailer brakes.

Thank you guys for the feedback. I am going to start looking for a lighter trailer.

I'm assuming you have the factory tow package...

My 2 cents is that you definitely can as long as you are mindful of how you load it. The GVWR is the most the TRAILER is rated for. CCC = GVWR - (UVW + Water + Propane) This leaves you with almost 920 lbs of shit you can carry on top of the water and propane without going over 6500 lbs. If you plan on taking a couple of quads, a bike or two, gas, generator etc I would look for a lighter trailer or bigger truck. If you don't load it with too much stuff you should be just fine. Weight distribution bars, anti-sway bar and trailer brakes are a must.

My camping trailer's CCC is 1400 pounds. I rarely put more than 800 pounds in it including all camping gear, food etc. which still leaves me well under the Gross rating of 7000 lbs. My lifted TRD sport with 285's tows it just fine too. I was really surprised how well it did the first time I towed it too. Will hold 5th gear on smooth stuff and does good on hilly stuff in 4th. Stopping is not an issue because of the trailer brake controller and trailer brakes. Tongue weight 200 lbs under and I have weight distribution bars. Perfect temps, slight throttle increase up hills. Just keep in mind that you are not driving an F350 and expect your gas mileage to be cut in half up hills.

Fair warning, if someone t-bones your truck while you are sitting still at a stoplight, your insurance company will likely reject your claim if the police report includes the fact that you are towing overweight. As a former adjuster, we were trained to look for just such a thing! And if that jackass gets hurt and is uninsured? You just lost your house and retirement!
