First post here, so hello to everyone here at TW. So what I am after, is a box to fit behind the rear driver side seat and house 1-10" sub. With zero modifications to the seat back or storage bin. A simple drop in take out setup for when I might need that space. I have always done my own car audio since I was 16. I have learned a lot and built many enclosures over the years. So i have set out to tackle this monster with the only thing that I can find to work in this location, a shallow mount sub. The sub I have ordered has a mounting depth of only 3" so i feel that i can make this work. I already have sketches and measurements for what i feel will work, but i would also like to hear from you guys as this is my first Tacoma and everyone here has been doing this for a while now. My current design is similar to this one

only slightly thinner to fit in the storage bin and only needing 3" of clearance. Just picking your brains. Any and all thoughts are helpful. Thanks Guys.

Curious as to why you want to keep the driver's side storage bin in place with a 10" sub? There are several driver's side single 10" boxes, that don't require a shallow mount sub, that fit nicely by just removing the bin on that side. I would suspect that a box that fits with the bin in place is going to be very limited on space for a 10" sub, even a shallow mount.

Lurkin is right. SuperCrewSounds has a box that fits on the drivers' side of the truck, but requires the removal of that bin. You can get a standard depth, or get the extra depth, which is a hole cut in the back of the box, sealed up with a 1/4" MDF panel as well. The extra depth box fits a JL W3v3, I've done it, and gets some great sound. Fitting a box in the bin would certainly limit you on space and sub options. The box comes out easy, and you can put the bin back no problem. Just a thought for you to think about.

my only reason for wanting to keep the bin, is that i regularly have people in my back seat and use my bins to stash things. I wanted to keep it for the chance that i may have stuff in the back seat and need to just leave my sub at home to use the bins for said junk. Other than that, no reason.

If that's the case I would consider just using one of the sub/amp combo boxes. Not a 10" sub, but they seem to get good reviews. Some concessions may need to be made based on what you want. Personally I just don't think you'll get the needed airspace for a 10 without removing the bin.

^^Yup. A powered 8" sub may be what you need. They fit in the bin, leave a little room, and you can stack some light stuff on top if need be. I believe Sound Ordinance and Kicker make what you're looking for. Another option is a JL perfect fit box. It takes up the space on the pass. side of the storage boxes, but leaves the drivers' side open for whatever you may need. If you go JL, you'll at least get that 10" that you're looking for.

Thanks for all of the info guys. Upon further consideration, I have decided to remove the bin to fit the JL 10w0v3 that I currently have. I want to retain as much storage as possible, so I want to keep the passenger side open. I think I will just go with the box linked in my first post unless there is a better option I can build. I like building my boxes too much to buy one, so that's out. Anyone have plans or dimensions for one without the bin other than the one I linked earlier?
