Instead of the usual CB I installed ham for more versatility. Use a portable CB on the trails.

Speaker behind driver works well as a location.

The ham location has never bothered a passenger.

I'm either going to buy his alternator when mine craps out, or when I find more lights and what not to wire up

    You don't see this everyday.

I cut up some poly shock bushings to make seals in an attempt to extend the life of the Heim joints (spherical bearings) commonly found on aftermarket coilovers. I have been doing this for 13 years and get 60K-80K miles out of a set of joints including thousands of dirty ass off road miles a year. The joints themselves and the retainer clips get a light smear of "Plumbers Silicone Grease" (Home Depot plumbing department) as a corrosion inhibitor, not a joint lubricant. It's made by "Gunk" and is intended for use on o-rings and seals. It contains no petroleum products. As an additional benefit the seals prevent the shock body from rotating and rubbing on the LCA mount ears.
Similar seals are now sold for double shear mounted rod end Heims.

These 2 shots are of the first commercially sold Tacoma SAW (rev 2 of the "upside down" 1st design, 7/8" shaft upgraded from 5/8") around Y2K. Still have them as spares.
    img003_308d2f07266d4ee0b48c1408249fc2e51053b197.jpg
    img004_f79bbdb12dd4863338e1c26fc164e18f639f5086.jpg

Here we see cutting the seals and a glamor shot of an install on a current shock. I used a razor knife against a plexiglass mandrel in a lathe. A steady wrist could do it free hand. Leave them around 1/16" to 3/32" fat so they "squeeze" in tight.

Not 13 years ago they didn't and those are just anti chafe disks up top with nothing on the lowers at all.

I don't know that. While you may have thought of it yourself, maybe even started the trend, just saying its no longer unique 13 years later. It is cool that you make them yourself, I do appreciate any hand made or modified things that work. Take the credit for making them popular :D

    Well fine then.
You would not believe the flack people put up back then, "That will just trap dirt" "They will rust up in no time" "Don't get any lube near the Heim, the liner will melt". Yeah,OK.
