Thinking about picking one up. Not trying to make a living with it, just some extra money on weekends and such. Waste of time?

What are your plans? Scrapping out old cars, picking up junk off the streets on trash day.

Around here that gig is pretty locked down. The teams of Scrappers are pretty agressive.

I put an old freezer to the curb last fall. The thing lasted 7 minutes.

As for owning care haulers, they are pretty handy if you are into repairing vehicles. I use mine quite often to pick up dead cars and bring home to repair. One drawback is they are quite large and you need space to park the thing.

In my honest opinion, the most usefull item to own is a car dolly to tow vehicles. Those things work awesome and you don't need a super duty to tow them with.

If you're planning on towing vehicles with the Tacoma to make some extra cash... I would say have fun.

    True

In Massachusetts, the vehicle has to be registered and insured in order to tow it on a dolly, otherwise it is required to go on a flatbed or full trailer.

I don't know if N.J. has the same rule.

I do like working on cars, but don't tow enough home to justify buying a trailer, unless I was going to try and use it more often.

I'm a member of a lot of different forums, due to working on different projects over the years. I was thinking of posting on those to get work. I don't know, probably a waste of time. Just trying to come up with an honest way to make some extra money to work on the new house...

Tow dollies are nice, but for the money, I'd rather just get a trailer.

As far as towing a car with a Tacoma? It's a V6 with the tow package and Ride Rites. It'll tow a light trailer and car just fine. As a matter of fact, it already has a couple of times.

The rules to leagally tow anything will blow your mind. It matters not where you live and tow. If you get pulled over by DOT officer, they WILL find something to cite you for.

There is almost no chance that when towing, we are not violating some law.
