    Hello All,

After reading through this thread I chose the 2.7 for many of the same reasons as the rest of you. However, there were 2 real deciding factors that influenced my purchace.

First, I do not plan on towing over 3500 lbs.

Second, the test drive. The 2.7 has plenty of power. It can get out of its own way no problem. It is not a hot rod but that is not why I bought a 4x4 pickup. The 2.7 is more than capable to do what I expect of it.

Extra power and performance is always nice but for this application, for me, the 2.7 was a better choice.

Not everyone has a need for a V6 or V8. The 2TR-FE does the job, and is a reliable, fuel efficient engine, and that's about all I can ask of any vehicle.

    reason for the 2.7L...?
The reason is because I save money on insurance- I used to drive a 97 mustang gt and isurance alone was a ton of cash and not to say the countless tickets I got for speeding that were on my driving record.
    - I save a ton of gas, the slowstang did like 10mpg average, in the taco I get like 23 average cause I'm not speeding anymore and the 2.7 restricts me from doing so, its slow but for a 2.7 is alright, I saved 500 bux already in insurance even though I have full coverage on the taco and on the mustang I didn't but it was expensive just for the fact that it was a sports car

well my 2.7L 96 reg cab 4x4 is only getting 14.7 mpg avg. Had a bad cat, took it off and welded a pipe. front o2 sensor was going bad too and I replaced. dont know why its so bad. i even do quite a bit of highway driving almost every week too.

I got a 2.7L 4x4 because I like it and all the reasons others have pointed out.

This is hilarious because I ask the same question about the V6. Why have it when for 1-2 mpg more you can have a full size truck. 2.7 is a perfect motor for these small truck IMO, and without massive tires and stuff I was ripping off 25-26 mpg every tank. Not much lower then my car really

That is one of the things I never mentioned. I used to always buy a V8 instead of a V6 because of the small difference in MPG between the two. I really like the 4 cyl in my Tacoma, perfect balance for what I do.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Slow, yes. MPG Highway Star. Truly unreal. I smile every time I get out of the truck. That or I am just crazy. It's done everything I've asked it to do and trust me that IS remarkable. Now, who on TW is going to be the first with the redesigned Taco. I'd like to see a regular cab super long bed 2wd. RV body. Dually.

Because it's what my truck came with. Better than my old Chevy Colorado 4 banger getting 15mpg.

I don't tow so it does what I need it to do..gets me to work and back without costing me a fortune in fuel.

Funny thing is the HP is comparable with the 1984 Camaro I had as a teenager with the V8..
