You just got screwed by that Toyota dealership. They charged you over an hour labor for something that takes 15 seconds. You can buy a scan guage ii for that money and it will calculate your fuel mileage display RPM speed engine temp volts and much more. display any cel codes and clear them . Cost about 150.00. Ultra guage for about 70.00 does much the same for less money.

I got raped dude, didn't even see it coming, Frick! maybe I will get the ultra gauge, this is the problem I foresee, lets say something else happens, I self diagnose, go to the dealership for warranty work... Now, are they going to take my word for it, that I Diagnosed properly, or will they tell me it needs to be diagnosed by the mechanic to ensure they don't miss anything? see. I might get f#$%ed either way, I still have another year or so of warranty till it's done!

" Now, are they going to take my word for it "No. They will not take your word for it and I wouldn't either. Any competent mechanic is going to do his own analysis. They should not be charging for the diagnostics under warranty.

I did some reading this morning, on Toyota's website, I could not find anything stating that Diagnostics were or weren't covered. but on all the Toyota forums, everybody was saying the same thing, that "they were all told that Diagnostics were not covered at all under warranty" even though it is not stated on the warranty plan or in any fine print! i think it would be reasonable for me to call Toyota Canada and explain my situation and others, And make sure that they have this in print when people go and drop an extra couple grand on extended warranty. Sales can't be that bad that they have to start charging for crap like that to make up for losses!

Seems like the OP has disappeared from this thread. So about being charged for diagnostics. I had the Toyota extended warranty and used it for thousands of dollars of work and never paid any fee. It never even was mentioned. Must be something new.
