if we have time before i leave, we can reweld a lip after the cut, to reinforce as it is in stock form. especialyl since you already have the 3'' flat bar stock.

Today was a big step forward in Smokey's build. With the help of Colinb I installed the rear diff. The rear diff is built with 4.10's and an ARB RD129 locker. :yay:

We also installed ATO's traction bar. We made an improvement to the bar by adding grease zerks to the rear bushings. The front bushing did not have a flat spot to add a zerk so we left it be. I might add a greasable bolt later on down the road.

The combination of the new gears and the traction bar is great. The sloppiness when taking off from a standstill is gone!

We'll get the front diff in next weekend and I'll do my best to get the compressor installed and wired before then. Can't wait to be fully locked.

This is all I have for today Tor. We were too busy doing work to stop and take glamor shots. :D

I'll be sure to get some pictures of the full traction bar soon.

Getting closer! Since I'm running the ARC control panel I have little use for the supplied compressor wiring harness and the fancy supplied switches. This will make the installation a lot easier. I'll run the three grounds to one point and run three hot leads from the fused relay panel and be done with the wiring.

Well, I guess I do have to figure out the pressure regulator switch. Hmm...

Here's what I believe to be the correct wiring for the compressor power if I'm not going to use the supplied ARB harness.

I will run a hot lead from the fused switch panel to one prong of the pressure switch. The second prong of the pressure switch will lead to the power-in wire on the compressor. Does that sound right? I'm assuming the solenoid doesn't need to be grounded.

That should power the compressor while it's below pressure and shut it off after it reaches the set pressure.

solenoids are generally grounded. most of the time it's not for function, but rather for an extra layer of safety.

    your wiring sounds good though.

What awg wire are you using? Is there a possibility that the pressure switch can't handle the amps being drawn and fuse in the close position?

I believe the pressure switch is rated at 5amps.

You are correct Chris. The pressure switch is rated at 5 amps. The compressor will pull 10 amps at full load and I'll probably run a 15amp fuse in the block.

So how do I incorporate the pressure switch without overloading it?

My guess would be a relay. 2 wires for the compressor and just a small 16awg wire to power the pressure switch that when activates will power the relay.

I'm looking at the ARB wiring diagram and not seeing how the pressure switch doesn't see the full 15 amps that will be supplied, or the 10 amps under max load.

    http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/manuals/arbcksamanual_2.pdf

Page 11 in the document has the diagram.

The red-yellow wire runs from the battery, with a 15amp fuse, to the compressor isolation switch. The supplied compressor isolation switch is not a relay, simply an OTRATTW switch that's illuminated. When the switch is turned on it feeds power to the Red wire. The Red wire feeds directly into the pressure switch. The Red-White wire the comes from the second terminal on the pressure switch and feeds directly into compressor motor plug. The black wire naturally goes to ground on the compressor motor plug.

There isn't any step down in amperage between the 15amp power wire to the 5amp rated pressure switch. Maybe I'm not seeing something, but it looks straight forward to me, albeit confusing since the pressure switch isn't rated for the power it will receive.

    Thoughts?

I have the same compressor, not sure what you are asking though. Are you worried the switch isn't rated for 15A?

The pressure switch has a label on it that states it's rated for 5 amps. The issue I see is that the wiring diagram has it in-line with a 15 amp rated source.

I guess I never noticed if there was an amp rating for the switch, but I have had 0 issues with mine.
