So I posted this in the 2nd Gen forum, and they directed me here,

Hello everyone, im new to the Tacoma world. got my truck last saturday and have spent the last week trying to make everything on it work the way I want it to.

My keyless entry doesnt honk/chirp when I lock/unlock the truck. I took it to the dealership and they said some aftermarket wiring is in the junction box and that is what is causing the lack of chirp. I have turned the internet upside down trying to figure it out, and I cant. so I have come to you.

I have the stock alarm/keyless entry system. with the little truck with a key in it that blinks on the center dash. not the VIP3200(?) system. i attached pictures of the patch job the previous owner did.

all of the plugins look like they are just crimped into the wire and can be taken out except for one that is cut and spliced into. BUT, that wire runs into the extra harness and then has a plug at the end and is just looped back to itself and looks like its still a continuous wire and doesnt go anywhere.

I bought it from a dealership so I cant contact the previous owner to ask. I attached a link to a bunch of pictures I took of the mess. there is a little black box, two fuses, and a sketchy switch. The previous thread seemed to lean toward an alarm system that the PO pulled out most of and left the wiring harness and mysterious little black box behind. As far as I can tell, there are no other aftermarket electronics on the truck (no siren or alarm in the engine bay)

any info would be awesome! I would be ok with taking it out as long as i dont need it. sorry for the bad explanation, hopefully the pictures will help!

the picture of the circuit board is whats inside the little black box. its got an adjustment screw and two lights. cant get any of the lights to come on.

Yeah I have seen a couple mods for adding chirping, but I would rather have it do it the way its supposed to if its there. I have considered the possibility its not supposed to chirp, but when I took it to the dealership they said its supposed to but they cant get it to do it, supposedly cause of the aftermarket stuff that is in there. and I specifically asked if they were sure its supposed to beep and I think 3 different techs said yes.....so....idk.

yeah I had seen one of your posts on my hunt for an answer. I would almost rather have both than none. haha. at least if turning one off was an option. So the factory one chirps?

Someone previously installed an aftermarket alarm in your truck, and from the looks of things, did a pretty half-assed job of it. Our trucks don't chirp or honk when locking or unlocking. If you want that feature, you should install an aftermarket alarm (and and don't use the existing wiring connections from the previous alarm).

My '06 does not, never has. I tried to do the reprogram mod, it did not work.
You definitely have some after market wiring there. You could chase them down and disconnect one at a time. Or go back to the dealer and have them take care of it:rolleyes:
As far as your chirp goes, I don't think it will happen without a after market alarm.

Maybe if your truck comes equipped with the 'VIP Security System' from Toyota, it does. But otherwise, they do not.
