    Hey everybody,

I'm new this is my first post. Just bought my first tacoma it is a '00 ext. cab v6 4x4, all stock.

My gas filler door lock is not working so I took the door off so I don't have to mess with it for an hour at the gas station. Does anyone know where I can buy a new one or an aftermarket one? I've looked online but haven't found much. Thanks!

Dealer should be able to get one, but you will have to paint it or chrome it.

My mounting bolts twisted off when I was removing mine so I ran a couple screws into the hinge all ghetto-like. I keep playing around with just making a trim ring around the hole. Pain in the butt to have to unlock it when you need gas imo.

Try RockAuto.com. Should be cheaper than the dealer plus I believe there's a 5% dicount code floating around this site somewhere.

I have the door, but no key and lock. You can get a key and lock on eBay.

A lot of the time it's not your gas door lock cylinder, but your worn out key. For some reason that (gas door) lock is a lot more sensitive to worn keys then the cab door, or ignition lock. Try your spare key to see if it works. If so, make another copy and toss your old one.

Glad that door locks. Once the kids in the hood get the idea for finding fuel,,you'll be a easy mark,,at 4 per gallon. Locking cap and door,,now they will be pissed and leave.

Fresh keys are a must on that door. I have a master that I use for new key cuts. Slobber a little bit of WD or canned white grease in there for no freeze and smooth lock action. Alcohol lock thaw shit is going to flush the lube away,,so don't use that stuff. Alcohol is hydroscopic,,so its drawing the water back to refreeze,,once it thaws it.

Props to mech160 as well. That gas door lock is quite a bit more delicate sadly. Everyone gets to jamming the key in there, in a rush and they force the light duty lock,,into heavy duty mode. Every once in awhile mine will stick on the unlock turn. I back off,,level the key, try again and it opens.

I still have my U-pullit yard maps with keyed vehicles. Need to get a new/used one.
