I'm sure this has been done before, but I loved it so much I wanted to share my experience. Bottom line: I had an old iphone 4S and wanted to put it to work. So I rigged it up as a scanguage/ultraguage/whatever wannabe. Here was the parts list:

    old iPhone 4S (free-ish)
    old charging cable (free-esque)
    Off Amazon:
    OBD2 WiFi transmitter ($23)
RAM mount iphone 4 adapter ($9)
Ram diamond mount w 1" ball x2 ($14 for both)
DashCommand app ($10 on apple app store)
    Lowes:
Black M5x.8x20 screws, nylon lock nuts, rubber washers, reg washers ($5)

    Assembled like so:
removed panel below left side drivers vent, drilled holes(13/64"s for M5 worked pretty well):
    photo1-2_8004f932a5948fe5a0a6c25d3352db6b8de30d42.jpg

why I got the rubber washers:

    backside:

    All the parts:

    RAM mount in place:

    top down shot:
    photo32-1_ef3b99e22d31f87e58b5efd637dccb1695f2ad61.jpg

    final result:

    photo12-1_a4504fe48f720ae224c43b9a436412a7d5d0ac69.jpg

Only thing I'd do different: I'm ordering a longer extension arm to get it a little farther from the wiper control lever. Also, gunna reroute the charging cable more out of the way.

Total cost: ~$61 + shipping and tax and whatnot..

I love it; nothing keeps my foot out of the gas like a CONSTANT reminder of how much $$ that supercharger is sucking down haha

Very cool! How did you download the app? Did you still have service for the phone? I have an old iPhone here but no service on it anymore, so I am not sure how to get the app on it.

Pretty cool..... I wonder if it will work for a ipod touch? I've got plenty of iPhones, iPods, and Android devices laying around.

My old iphone still works on wifi; anything I buy on my new iphone, I can download on there through iTunes.

Dash command SHOULD work on any Apple iPad/iPhone/iWhatever. But you'd need something with wifi (which should be just about everything iWhatever) to link to the OBD2.

DashCommand is awesome btw; I was a little hesitant to blow $10, but zero regrets now. It pulls any and all OBD2 data, can log it and save the logs, displays it through TONS of different 'dashboards' which you can create and customize(or just download other ppls), and works well with the iPhone through wifi. I promise I don't own dash command stock.

I like those two gauges. How are they hooked up, and where'd you get them?

Thanks all!; it ended up looking better than I thought it would

Really this can be done on any vehicle; just gotta figure out where and how to attach the RAM hardware. This is my first experience with RAM btw; and so far so good. Cheap, sturdy, and looks good; can't beat that.

Those are innovate gauges I picked up from URD. My build has all the juicy details if you wanna see how I rigged them up(shameless plug! Haha)

Looks like it's an android app as well; you should be gtg as long as the nexus has wifi. Just need the OBD2 transmitter

Mine came in today, works flawless. Been using it with my ipad for the moment til I figure out what I want to do for a perm mount. Pretty dam cool I got to say.
The LED status lights are annoying at night though lol, blinking lighting up the floor on the drivers side. Easy fix to just cover them up some electrical tape. When I get it all figured out ill post up some vids and pics .

    To the OP:
Do you leave your module in the the truck?, was wondering if it still draws power enough to worry about a dead battery.

I'm doing this. Gotta use bluetooth apparently because I'm using an Android phone. Hopefully it works as well and there isn't much data delay..

Glad to hear its workin out! I hear ya with the lights; I've been meaning to tape over mine as well. I couldn't figure out why my foot was blinking the first night I had it installed.

And I just leave mine in. Its been like that for a couple weeks, and I haven't had any issues with my battery. Pretty sure it shuts down when you have the key out. If it doesn't it must not draw much power because my truck hasn't had any issues.

BTW the longer RAM arm (I mentioned it in a later post) is definitely the way to go. It put the phone right in that sweet spot away from the controls, but not blocking the clock/radio displays. I'll post a pic when it stops pouring out.

Just got mine set up. Seems to work pretty well. One question though.

Have any of you had success in getting the "distance to empty" to display? I can get the average mpg and instant mpg. Using on a 2012 Tacoma, 4.0, automatic.

    Thanks

I don't think the fuel level is sent to the OBD on the Tacomas. If the "dte" did work you would have to reset it when you filled up the gas tank.
