    Hello All.

I've had my eye on one for a couple years now and last week I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a 2014 4x4 Tacoma TRD Off Road. I can't pry myself away from the truck. I'm eager to learn and soak up all the information I can from this forum and be able to help others out with questions they might have one day. That being said... I do have a couple questions and concerns. This vehicle is my daily driver, and will be used for weekend adventures.

    1. Anything I should be wary of in terms of the new truck. Common issues that are known to arise in the model year. No problems for me so far, knock on wood!

    2. I purchased the TRD OR option cause I wanted a truck I could enjoy on the trails outside of town and eventually upgrade tires, suspension, etc. when I either have some extra dough, but most likely when they need to be replaced. I took the truck on a pretty easy trail and I definitely think I need to lift. What options do I have for a 2" to 3" lift that will not affect normal city/highway driving to much. I want my Tacoma to be a well rounded vehicle. A truck that is practical for city driving and can handle the back road trails of southern NV and CA.

    3. Is there anything I should consider upgrading on the truck to sooner then my plans stated above?

I AM STOKED ABOUT THIS TACOMA!!!

If it's 4WD, you will want to press the A-TRAC button the first time you go into low range... This makes the truck climb any grade and nearly impossible to get stuck, as it matches tire rotation on all 4 wheels, similar to having lockers on the front and rear... Knock yourself out... Greatest mid size truck in North America, indeed! Without A-TRAC, just one tire will spin in front and one in the rear when forward motion is prevented.

Mademan - I see you replying everywhere. Awesome looking truck

David K - Truck only has a little over 500 miles. I didn't feel comfortable taking steep grades. I can't wait to use A-Trac though. How many miles should I have on the engine before I can really start pushing it off road?

Gee wiz, don't wait for anything... enjoy it! New cars (Toyotas at least) don't need a break in for off roading... Oh, what a feeling!

I took my new truck from the dealer to Baja the very day I bought it!!!
That was my 2005... Photo is my new truck the next day on a Pacific beach near El Rosario, Baja California, Mexico!

My 2010 had to wait 3 weeks before we could go to Baja... but it was great, and drove the sand with ease and no deflating thanks to TRAC limited slip 4WD! Here it is on the OTHER side of Baja, the Sea of Cortez coast, near San Felipe.

Hey I know the feeling...well almost. I'm waiting for it to come in to the dealer. I have a question about the trd or package. Is the skidplate that toyota advertises in the accessory catalog the same one that came on your trd OR?
