    any Linux pros out there?

I have a PBX server running on Linux on an old box. I set it up a few years ago following instructions from the interwebs and that's the extent of my experience with Linux.

Just upgraded my DSL internet service to a higher speed and had to get a new modem/router. Previously, I had a wireless router plugged into a DSL modem.
When I plugged my PBX box into this new router it didn't work. When I finally connected a monitor and keyboard to it, I saw that the bootup was hanging on "Determining IP info for eth0"
If I unplug the ethernet cable it boots up fine, but if I boot up with it plugged in, it hangs.

    Any ideas?

Is the new wireless router setup to hand out DHCP addresses?

Is eth0 set to dynamic or static addressing?

So I ended up fixing it with a bit of google-fu.
Just had to configure the linux box for static IP. I had the old router set to issue a static IP for it, but I guess it wasn't configured on the Linux box.
Strange that it worked for the old router but not the new one...

yeah, I really don't like this actiontec router that century link gave me.
I have tomato running on my old linksys and that's much better.
The way this thing works, the only way to set up static IPs is to either have the MAC address, or wait until it's connected and then assign a static IP.

eth0 was set for DHCP, but it worked fine with the old router handing it the same, static IP every time.
Once I figured out how, and set it for a static IP, all is well.

I have a Linksys E3000. One of the features I like about it is I can assign IPs to certain devices like a static IP. dhclient can do it's thing and I don't have to guess at the devices IP.

I believe you are referring to DHCP reservation. Essentially a static IP, but handed out to the same client every time through DHCP, based on the client's mac address. Quite handy.
