I just purchased (literally a few days ago) my first Tacoma, a 2013 Dbl Cab SR5 shortbed, and been looking into bed extenders. I found a thread where someone had mentioned the Instagate and how it was still being sold on Ebay. I'm seriously debating on purchasing one soon. Although, I know that it means drilling a hole in the composite material and I think into the top part of the tailgate that has metal underneath. I would really like some feed back from people who have the Instagate... how long you have had it and how well you like it, as well as any issues. Do they rattle a lot compared to others, screws backing out/not holding, etc?

Additionally, I would like to know of any other bed extenders out there that may be comparable in that they fold up to allow for using the entire bed (or most of it) when not in use.

Thanks in advance for all of your advice!

i also put expanded metal all the way around the inside and im gonna get some rustoleum roll on bed liner and put a couple of coats on it. i tried painting but its getting scratched a bit. a guy i work with gave me all the angle he got from a garage door he took down or something and i had the scrap expanded metal already. about 3 1/2 hours and 25 ish bolts later this is what i came up with. pretty cheap. got it secured with a bunjie through the hole down my tail gate latch through d ring then stretched to the back of rack and its solid. i just leave mine extended all the time but i imagine u could put hinges on the corners so it would fold flat and lay it it the bed.
if ur buying that angle braces you'll need about 24' and i think there like 12 bucks for 8' at lowes.

I know this is an old thread and I've seen a more complete version of this somewhere, but how has it held up so far? I was thinking about doing something similar but wanted to know about its durability before buying the material. Thanks.

Great. I swapped the bunjies for some nylon straps. The only issue i have is the metal on metal squeek in the tailgate latch i hear if i ride with the windows down . I think i may put some rubber on it and see if that helps ill post some more pics this weekend here
