This evening while I was doing a bit of wheeling in my 2006 on the way home from work, I noticed that several warning lights on the instrument cluster all suddenly came on.

The VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, ABS and BRAKE lights all came on. Truck seems to be running fine and was in 2WD at the time.

Battery shows 13.0v and when running the Ultragauge indicates13.7v or so at the ECU.

So is this an electrical issue? or is this perhaps an issue with an ABS sensor? or ??

Appreciate any help from the TW knowledge base!

I'd start by reading the ABS codes. There's a way to do it with a jumper in the OBDII port which will give you a blink code, but I can't recall the exact procedure. Most code readers won't read ABS, SRS, etc, and I guess your UG is the same, so short of the blink code method, a scan tool or the Techstream clone and cable are your options for diagnosing.

A quick look under the truck at the ABS sensor cables wouldn't hurt either, since you may have torn one while wheeling.

Thanks for the reply, the ABS sensor cables appear to be intact and look normal.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer may be in order. Thanks.

Whatever the issue, it must be premature failure. :D I thought Toyotas were supposed to run forever..

    Keep us updated.

Mine did this after wheeling minus the 2 vsc lights since I don't have those but they when away after a couple of on off cycles. It happened right after I got stuck in some snow

Reading some about this issue with the 4 Runners it seems the most likely cause is a wheel speed sensor or cable. Just because it looks fine doesn't mean that it is.

The situation that it happened after wheeling That is where I would put my money.

Get the code read and you will probably have the answer.

This is how you should be able to read the code at home:

    Connector Diagram
    [IMG]

Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)
1 Drive the vehicle faster than 30kph for at least 1 minute.
2 Stop the vehicle and turn the ignition OFF.
    3 Turn ignition ON.
4 Connect terminal Tc and E1 with your own wire link, (Click here for details) , as shown on the diagram.
5 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.
6 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

    Code Format Diagram

    Code Format Description
    • Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
    • The first series indicates the 'tens' digit.
    • The second series indicates the 'ones' digit.
    • A long pause separates each code.
    • A shorter pause separates the 'tens' and 'ones'.
    • A system pass code is indicated by very short repeating flashes.
    • Code Format Diagram shows code No. 32.

Maybe clean the ABS sensors and tone rings before going to the dealer?

My understanding is that if the ABS system has a fault, all those lights come on at the same time.

I did try disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours which made no change. I agree it is likely an ABS speed sensor or wire (which are all original).

If I have time before I get by the dealer , I will try the jumper in the ODB II pins.

    Thanks.

You do realize the lights flash when the system is activated. They should not stay on but they will light when the system is doing it's thing.

Dealer says right rear wheel bearing wore out, causing axle seal to go bad causing gear oil to contaminate wheel speed sensor. Cleaned sensor not working so having to replace it as well.

Actually, the rear bearing was not original, both rear bearings were replaced at 62,659. But 290k on rear bearing is not bad!
