And looks like we all got screwed with a frame that's going to rust away, and Toyota doesn't care.

Just order some fluid film in the aerosol cans and do it yourself, save some money. First time order 3 - 4 cans for the undercoating, an extra can for the rocker panels, and an extra can for the doors. After that don't worry about the doors or rockers.

I would stay away from hard coatings, as they may wear out or crack overtime leaving moisture underneath to root the frame, while you have no visibility into what's happening.

    Do dents and scratches count?
Undercoating will make it worse. It will look great until your frame rots out from the inside.

I'll second this. I live in the midwest and my '99 Taco rusted out so bad they didn't want to let me drive it home after an inspection. I wanted an undercoating on the new one so I did a ton of reading on the subject, and it looks like it's only good for classic / show cars. Otherwise you have to inspect and touch it up on a yearly basis in case of cracks / chips from rocks, etc. To me, that yearly inspection entirely defeats the purpose of undercoating plus it's going to be hard to see a small crack. You'd get much better results with a wire wheel and Rustoleum if you're doing a yearly touch-up.

I have a small pressure washer and air compressor, so I picked up a fluid film application kit from Kellsport for $120 or so. Every spring I'm going to drive it up on ramps and pressure wash the underside very thoroughly, and every fall I'll get under it and soak it in Fluid Film. I got a couple cans of the aerosol; they're nice for hitting small areas but in the long run it's going to be easier and cheaper to just use the big sprayer. I just got the new truck so I'm going to do both of those steps this weekend.
