I just bought a Tacoma from Toyota of Richardson a couple weeks ago and just got an email for a new owners dinner event. They are saying they will provide us with dinner and free gifts if we attend. I was just wondering if anyone else has been to one of these before and if it would be worth going for the "free gifts"

I might be too cynical but nothing's free. I'd be willing to bet that this is just an attempt to sell you more stuff like an extended warranty or whatever. Sort of like those 'free dinners' where they badger you to buy a time share...

My dealership holds a new owner event every month by invitation only. I had attended one when I purchased my recent Taco. They served dinner which was several 6' wedges with chips and soda. The service sales departments were represented. I found it to be very informative. There were about 30 customers in attendance. The service department explained the complimentary 2 yr service along with answering any service questions. The sales dept explained the safety and other features of the vehicles. There were no sales pitches. Just a nice evening with people who have an interest in their cars. I enjoyed it!

I had pretty much the same experience as car78412. After a long listening to an old dog like me complain about the gas mileage on his Prius here in rural, hilly northeast Iowa over the last few months that just happened to be winter my wife had to raise her hand. The service guy was doing his first presentation and was happy to move on but his smile dropped when Sandy stood up and said she had a problem with my SpeedwayBlue Tacoma. "It's a chick magnet" she explained much to his relief.
