    I had the black version of that emblem and mine went to shit rather quickly as well. Not sure if hitting it with some kind of clear coat would have helped.

    I lightly sanded mine with 320 grit sand paper, taped off the red&white stripe, and put 3 coats of some rustoleum plastic black. Then 2 coats of krylon matte clear.
