This suspension thing is waaaaay harder than it should be. I'm beyond frustrated with all of the different options out there, some of them good, others bad. Essentially, I'm trying to throw a 3" lift into my '14 DC Sport so I can get a better ride and run 285/70R17's. I'd really like to avoid dropping 2 grand if I don't have to (not including tires, of course), and it seems that as far as bang for my buck is concerned, the IS1 is the best option.

Okay, so it's a $1500 suspension lift that, by all accounts I've seen so far, is awesome. My question is, what else needs to go into the kit to make it viable?

Do I need an AAL? Will the stock UCA's be okay, or will I be all over my lane on the freeway?

Or am I wasting my time/money on this lift? For what I want, can I get away with Eibach coils, 5100 Billies, and an AAL?

you don't wanna put in a 3 inch lift without new UCAs. I have the icon stage 1 co's and they are sweet. you will need either an add a leaf or leaf pack for the rear. Really comes down to what you want to spend. do some searching around in the suspension section to see what fits your needs and budget.

Ditto about not wanting to go 3" without new UCA's. Lots of guys here run Light Racing UCA's. I just ordered an Icon stage 1 with Desert Racing uniball UCA's, and a new Dakar leaf pack. I went through Downsouth Motorosports during their cyber monday deal. You won't be able to get any lift in the rear without at least getting an add a leaf or a new leaf pack.

The Icon Stage 1, with our 3 Leaf add-a-leaf set would ride great. If you are going for 2.5"+ of lift, you may want to also consider some UCAs.

i'm running icon/dakars. the ride is truckish (fairly stiff). i suspect the beefy leaf pack is to blame. also, the alignment shop cranked the hell out of the driver's side coilover - it's down about 2.5". i think this further makes for a stiff ride. icon recommends leaving they where they're set from the factory.

off road the set up is scott baio dreamy.

if you're looking for plush you may want to go aal insead of dakars.

I figure it will be a fair bit stiffer. But hey, I figured I have a truck, not a car. My current pack is also pretty much shot and don't really mind giving up the squishyness of the current worn out springs for some that won't feel like crap with maybe 200lbs in bed! Thanks for the heads up about cranking the coilovers

for what it's worth, i'm running 285/70/17's w/ an Icon stage 1 lift on my 2010 DC. It's set at 2.5ish in the front w/o new UCA's & i have zero rubbing or clearance issues. If you want to go a full 3in, you will need new UCA's.

I also have Icon's 1.5in 3 leaf pack in the back & it's a marked improvement on & off road over the AAL i had installed prior.

So you don't have UCA's installed, are running at 2.5 and have 0 clearance issues on that tire setup?

Ultimately, I'll probably replace UCA's just for the sake of ride quality, but I'm trying to cut upfront cost if I can.

correct. no rubbing issues whatsoever & aligns perfectly. as long as you go with the standard travel front coil overs, stock UCA's are fine. I purchased through Down South Motorsports and had a great experience. call & ask for Micah.

Thanks for the input. You're not the first to recommend DSM. I'll have to give them a call.

-What kind and how many leafs did your original pack you added the Icon Progressive 3 leaf AAL pack to?

-How much lift did it provide?

Original pack was factory- added an AAL to it (forget which brand). I pulled the factory leaf pack & AAL out & added the Icon pack when i installed the shocks. Both packs provided 1.5in of lift, but the Icon has a much better ride.

I just wanted to add a comment as I am in your shoes. With a 3" lift and using the stock UCA's the alignment guys won't be able to adjust the Caster angle to where you really want it. You should be around 2.4 degrees for Caster and as close to Zero in Camber after alignment, so you won't have steering issues. I lifted 3" and my Caster would only go to 1.4 with the stock UCA's. The truck has a little steering play and tends to wander a bit when freeway driving. Minimal, but noticable. Just so you know! I have a Spacer lift, but I've already purchased the Icons and the add a leaf and UCA's to replace the spacer lift. The spacer lift is junk as far as I concerned and is only for looks. I need an off-road vehicle hence the full suspension upgrade...:)

this. I had the wheelers 3 AAL pack and it was way smoother than the single AAL.

This is what he is talking about along with the factory leaf pack. its 3 leafs that go into your current pack rather than a single AAL.

I had this set and it was great, cheaper than the Icon too
