    Hi,

I am thinking about leaving the winter tires on my OEM rims, and buying a second set of TRD rims to use for summer tires, so I am not dependant on show to swap tires.

But how does that work with TPMS sensors. I would have to buy 4 sensors, and have them installed. Can I then just swap the rims and tires at will, or is there something special to do when I switch? Is special equipment needed?

I've got two sets of tires. When I switch tires They have to reprogram the TPMS. I think that you can get aftermarket sensors that can be set to match the stock sensors so you don't have to reprogram.

Is it a pain to program the TPMS?

I bought all of the tires from discount tires so they do the work. I make the switch when it's time for rotation. They do not charge me and it doesn't seem to take any additional time.

So, if you reprogram the tpms, does it ignore the other set of tires? Like, if the other set of tires are sitting in the garage, the tpms isn't reading different 2 different sets of tires?

    Things I need to tow.
The sensors are registered with the tpms computer. Only one set can be registered at a time, so when you switch wheels the new set has to be registered and the previous ones are ignored. I know of a couple of people who only have sensors in their summer wheels and park their vehicle next to them in winter and claim the system still works.

I have sensors in my summer wheels but not the winter ones. I have my stock (summer) wheels and tires with TPMS stacked in front of the truck when I'm parked in the garage. As soon as the truck is close to the summer tires and sensors it satisfies the system and the idiot light goes out. About 20 minutes from home every day the idiot light blinks for 1 minute and then stays lit. If I shut off the truck away from home, when I restart I get the 1 minute of blinking and then the solid light. As soon as I pull in the garage the light goes out. If the truck had a summer/winter switch for the owner to change seasonally I might have gotten sensors, but the computer only holds 5 codes, and you either buy a gizmo or have the dealer or a tire place reprogram it. The other option is cloning Schrader EZ sensors to your stock codes, but I couldn't find anywhere local to price that option.

I put all my sensors in a sealed PVC tube. Have 35psi in it. Tube is behind seat and light is out.

Seems like the easiest thing to do is ignore the light.
I think the Car Talk guys would tell you to put a piece of electrical tape over it.

How did we ever survive not having tire pressure idiot lights in The Dark Olde Days? :D
