Recently bought a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport. Tried to slightly unscrew the oil filter with a filter wrench and it won't budge. Had the same problem with my 2005 Tribute on the first oil change. Any thoughts? Was it installed dry?

Had the same problem when I did first oil change on my 2009 - definitely appeared gasket was NOT lubricated when engine assembled. No problems since.

Prob installed dry...just make sure you're turning the right direction and put some muscle behind it and it will come off.

i used the strap wrench... it was screwed in so tight that I used my wrench,,, it was crushing the filter!! But with a little more elbow grease, i got it off! hardcore! So I had to change the oil filter dripping cap, cause I ripping it, I went to the toyota dealer for a new cap,, they wanted $7.50 for it (but i needed it), the oil drain plug was cheaper! wtf!!

Getting that first factory filter off mine was tough too. Not a lot of room to work a regular filter wrench in there, but one of these did the trick:

They seem to put the filters on too tight from the factory. I used one of these.
Don't be afraid to crush it a bit. I did. Lol

I had a hard time removing the oil filter on my first oil change as well. I went and bought a strap wrench and it came right off. I think they used a gorilla to install the filter at the factory.

I think the design of the strap wrench is very clever, taking advantage of physics to apply grip and turning force at the same time.

These work good, but they do crush the cans. I say who cares as long as you have the replacement ready to go on. Crushing it just helps you bite it better.

They work great and if it crushes, it's getting replaced anyways.
